8 Day Marangu Route Kilimanjaro Climb

“Climb Kilimanjaro in 8 Days via the Marangu Route”

8 Day Marangu Route Kilimanjaro Climb

NOK 22259 per person
8 days 7 Nights

The 8 Day Marangu Route is one of the most popular ways to climb Mount Kilimanjaro, known for its comfortable hut accommodation and steady, well-established trail. Nicknamed the “Coca-Cola Route,” it offers a classic trekking experience through rainforest, moorland, alpine desert, and finally the arctic summit zone leading to Uhuru Peak (5,895m).

This route is ideal for climbers who prefer a more structured and comfortable ascent while still experiencing the full diversity of Kilimanjaro’s landscapes.

Best Time to Climb

The best time to climb Kilimanjaro via the Marangu Route is during the dry seasons:

  • January to mid-March – warmer, clearer skies, fewer climbers
  • June to October – peak season with the most stable weather

These periods offer better trail conditions, clearer summit views, and lower rainfall. April–May and November are wetter months and generally less recommended.

Health & Safety

Climbing Kilimanjaro is non-technical, but altitude is the main challenge.

Key safety points:

  • Proper acclimatization is essential (headaches, fatigue, and nausea can occur)
  • Slow and steady pace (“pole pole”) is critical
  • Hydration is very important at high altitude
  • Guides monitor health daily for altitude sickness symptoms
  • Emergency descent protocols are available if needed

Good preparation, fitness, and listening to your guide significantly improve safety and summit success.

Success Rate

The 6-day Marangu Route has a moderate to good summit success rate, generally higher than the 5-day version due to the extra acclimatization time.

  • 5-day Marangu: lower success rate due to faster ascent
  • 6-day Marangu: improved success with better acclimatization
  • Overall success varies depending on fitness, weather, and individual response to altitude
Optional Add-ons:
  • Flight from Oslo (+ NOK 8,500 – 20,000 depending on season)
