Tanzania Student Travel – Conservation & Culture
A 15-day interdisciplinary journey combining experiential learning, cultural immersion, and hands-on conservation in Northern Tanzania.
Program Overview
This student-led travel abroad program provides an immersive, interdisciplinary learning experience in environmental conservation, sustainable tourism, cultural studies, and community development. Students explore real-world conservation challenges, human–wildlife coexistence, and rural livelihoods while engaging directly with local communities and conservation practitioners.
The program is based in Kisiwani (Hillock School), Karamba Maasai Village, Mkomazi National Park, Tarangire National Park, and the Ngorongoro Crater, combining academic instruction, experiential learning, and community engagement.
Kisiwani – Hillock Pre & Primary School
Hillock School is more than a learning center; it’s a movement redefining rural education. Students participate in teaching support, environmental projects, creative arts, and hands-on learning, helping to nurture curiosity, emotional well-being, and practical skills for life.
Karamba Maasai Village
Students live with the Maasai in non-tourist villages, gaining immersive cultural experiences. The program includes bush skills training, such as identifying animal footprints, tracking trails, observing feeding behaviors, and other practical survival and observation techniques. Students also engage in water and wildlife conservation projects, addressing human–wildlife conflict and supporting local communities during the dry season.
Mkomazi National Park
Visit the Black Rhino Sanctuary and wild dog conservation efforts, where students learn about endangered species management and ecosystem protection.
Tarangire National Park
Explore the elephant-populated savannahs and giant baobab trees, observing how these keystone species shape ecosystems and support biodiversity.
Ngorongoro Crater
Study multiple land-use systems where humans and wildlife coexist, providing a living model of sustainable interaction between people and nature.
